On Thursday 20th May, Wyke Green Foxes recorded an emphatic 7 – 2 win in the first round of the Abery Cup Middlesex Foxes knockout competition against Stanmore at Ealing. This was especially gratifying as a number of Foxes were unavailable due to the Turkey tour. Earlier in the week, thanks to some firm words from Paul Lawry, all the team members had a courtesy round at Ealing which proved excellent preparation at the course, especially on the greens which seemed significantly larger, faster and more undulating than our course. The result appears resounding but 6 of the matches went the distance & Phil Scott won on the 19th.
The team was Mark Jelbert, Phil Scott, Richard Hopwood, Dave Madden, Kevin Hurry, Terry Wells, Stuart Green, Roger Messenger and Captain Paul Lawry.
We now face either Pinner Hill or Highgate at North Middlesex by early July.
The sheets are up for the next two fixtures, home against Mill Hill on Thursday 27th May & away at West Middlesex on Saturday May 29th a rare weekend fixture.
A reminder that the end of May is the deadline for the first round of the Foxes knockout.
Stuart Green.
